Elephant Safari in Nepal’s Royal Chitwan National Park
If you are looking for a bit of adventure travel, there are few destinations that come to mind more often than Nepal. Nepal seems made for adventure. But if you aren’t up for hiking the Himalayas, you can keep on the warm (and safer) side with an elephant safari.
An elephant safari in the Royal Chitwan National Park can provide a touch of adventure as you ride an elephant through the gorgeous jungle scenery. You might even see the Asian one-horned rhino, an endangered species. There are also other exotic animals in the Royal Chitwan Park, including the Bengali tiger, pythons, hornbills and even monitor lizards.
Getting into Royal Chitwan National Park can be just as interesting and adventurous as what happens when you get there. You can take a three day raft trip down the Trisuli River (easy to access from Kathmandu). However, be aware that you will likely have to arrange your elephant safari separately from your raft trip. You can make arrangements to begin your safari inside the park. Additional raft trips are available in Royal Chitwan National Park on the Karnali and Sun Kosi rivers (and these can take you places even the elephant safari can’t go).
